Team teaching with the art instructor, I am constantly looking to see if there are ways to improve the animation course. It's always wonderful to get another perspective and watch good teachers at work.
The first part of the course MUST be a boot camp in character creation and design. Teaching students how to draw their characters for animation is obviously important. Introduction to the animation application should take place immediately as animation/drawing practice should be complete in sketch books AND digitally. Ideally, the students entering the course will have had a strong fine arts/drawing background, but that is unlikely. These courses could easily be advanced level courses for students who have completed a formal course in drawing or demonstration of drawing skills. This would allow students to jump right into the animation techniques and have more time in production instead of instruction of basic skills.
