OzoBots!

This past Christmas, my brother and I decided to get all of our kids (ranging in ages of 5-12) involved in robotics/programming. He purchased Ozobots for each family. The actual model is the Evo. This version allows for remote/apps control of the tiny robot and block and/or script programming. The Javascript code can be seen alonside the blocks, but programming in JS is not available (yet?).

The Evo has flashy lights and sensors. So, the possibilities are numerous and fun!

The programming element is exciting. From very simple block programming, which can become more complex, to Java-script programming (eventually?). This little bot, measuring approximately 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches, could be easily incorporated into a STEM curriculum for the pre-Elementary to High School level.

Different skins can be purchased. This little, but fun bot has some great potential for lower budget engineering/programming/robotics lessons or courses. I will incorporate the bot into my programming courses to accentuate the classes. Similar to VEX, I will have students 'drive' the bots through obstacles using the app blue-tooth controller AND complete obstacles/tasks autonomously by programming them in complex block programming or, eventually, Java-script. This would be regarded as the 'autonomous' session.

It may also be a possibility to create custom skins using 3D printing. Will give it a go. :-)
